As this new school year begins, staying organized can make a significant difference in a student's academic success and overall well-being. A well-organized space not only reduces stress but also increases productivity and focus. To help you get started, here are two key areas where organization can really help your student thrive. The first area is the overall schoolwork system and routine you set up for your child in your home. The second area focuses on their desk where the homework happens. In this blog, I'll talk about how to optimize these 2 areas and recommend some must-have products that will keep your student organized throughout the school year. Let's get started!!!
Creating a Supportive School Work System
Start the school year off right by establishing a designated homework area within your home. By setting up a "designated study/homework" area you will be creating a consistent, distraction-free environment where your child can focus solely on their studies. Try to find an area that is free from distracting noises from things like TV or people talking. Also try to make the area free from digital distractions such as texts or social media notifications. This dedicated space should be equipped with essential supplies and organizational tools that foster a productive routine and reinforces the importance of disciplined study habits. You also want to include an efficient system for keeping track of homework assignments, test and project deadlines, as well as study materials. Investing in the right academic planner will help students visualize their schedule, prioritize their tasks, and avoid last-minute cramming sessions. It's also important to implement an efficient way for your child to manage and file study materials. With a proper filing system, students should be able to easily access past notes and resources needed for midterms or finals. By incorporating these strategies and products, students can create a structured and supportive learning environment that promotes continuous academic achievement.
Here Are a Few Products to Help Build a Supportive School Work System:
1) Set Up a Homework Station: Set up a designated homework station equipped with all the supplies your child needs, such as pens, paper, measuring tools, calculators, calendars, and textbooks. This will help reduce the amount of valuable time wasted looking around for the supplies they need. With all the supplies neatly organized and in one place, it will help keep your child focused on the school work they need to complete.
2) Utilize the "BEST" Academic Planner on the Market: Academic planners should not simply be a notebook to jot down assignments in. A proper academic planner should be able to help students visualize their schedule, prioritize tasks, which will help avoid missing or late assignments. The "BEST" academic planner on the market for students (bar none) is shown below. It not only helps students keep track of ALL of their assignments, but it also helps teach them time management skills to make sure their homework is easily completed ON TIME without any need for stressing out last minute.

3) Create a Supportive Filing System: Setting up a supportive filing system for your child's paperwork is crucial for keeping study materials that may be needed for future use. You can use folders or binders to categorize notes, handouts, and completed assignments by subject. Creating a filing system for school paperwork is essential because it ensures that important documents, like notes, handouts, and completed assignments, are always accessible and organized. Folders or binders can easily categorize these materials by subject so your child can easily locate what they need when it's time to review past lessons or study for exams. This system not only saves time but also reduces stress, allowing students to focus on their studies rather than searching for misplaced papers.
Creating a Supportive and Organized Desk Area
Studies have proven time and time again that a clean/clear surface area on your desk promotes better focus and productivity. Research further shows that students with cluttered workspaces are more likely to become distracted and even procrastinate when it comes to completing homework on time. When a desktop is cluttered, it can also increase the chance that your student spends unnecessary time searching for a lost assignments on their desk. By eliminating the clutter from your child's desk, it helps them process information faster and easier because there are fewer distractions getting in the way.
Here's How to Create a Supportive and Organized Desk Area
1) Desk Organizers: Desk organizers are a super easy way to keep supplies like pens, paper clips, and sticky notes neatly organized. They keep your child's desktop workspace clean and clear while keeping needed supplies easy to find and at their fingertips.
2) Cable Management: Let's face it, the more technology we have, the more cables and cords we have to deal with. Cables and cords tangling up on the desk can be very distracting and create a lot of clutter on your child's desktop. There are so many wonderful cable clips and cable management organizers available on the market that can prevent the cords from tangling up while beautifully decluttering the desktop workspace.
3) Monitor Risers: Computer monitors or laptops can take up valuable workspace on your child's desk. If your child is dealing with a smaller desk area, you can easily create more work space by simply raising necessary items up off the desktop. Consider investing in Monitor/Laptop risers to create more surface space to work on. Many risers have built in storage drawers and pen slots to keep additional items neatly organized while creating more desktop space to work from.
Staying organized throughout the school year doesn't have to be a daunting task. By focusing on key areas like your child's desk and schoolwork system, you can create a supportive environment at home that promotes more productivity and less stress. Incorporating the right products into these spaces will further enhance your organizational efforts and set your child up for a successful school year.
